What is USB? - General features
USB stands for Universal Serial Bus.
Universal method of connecting peripherals to computers.
Serial bus – Meaning there are a fewer number of wires in each cable helping reduce complexity.
Low cost – Simple hardware implementation and layout helps reduce costs.
Standard – Defined by the USB implementers forum http://www.usb.org which helps ensure compatibility.
Hot Plug – System doesn't need rebooting when devices are connected and removed.
Powered – peripherals get power from the bus reducing the number of “power bricks” required.
