What is USB? - Mass storage class
Mass storage – Any device that has non volatile storage.
Includes USB attached hard discs, CD ROMs, CD Writers, flash memory devices.
Its becoming more common for devices such as cameras and MP3 players to have a mass storage interface.
This class is simply a way of delivering low level device commands to the device, these commands are usually SCSI or ATAPI command sets so require the OS to provide drivers for these protocols as well.
